Naturopathic Degrees

Naturopathic Degrees can be earned through leading naturopathic colleges, a number of Oriental Medicine Schools, and other healing arts schools. While the field of naturopathy is a noninvasive and an alternative medicine, it is commonly used in conjunction with traditional medicine as a complementary treatment. Because of this, more and more prospective students are beginning to explore the educational possibilities of attaining Naturopathic Degrees.The potential for students to attain their Naturopathic Degrees through a number of correspondence schools and online learning schools also exists; however, it is in the student's best interest to determine the legitimacy of these degree programs and whether or not these earned Naturopathic Degrees will be considered sufficient for licensure in naturopathy.While some accredited natural healing colleges and universities vary in the precise titling of Naturopathic Degrees, the two basic degree programs, "Doctor of Naturopathy" and "Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine" are both one in the same. Both are commonly abbreviated with "N.D." The exception to the rule of Naturopathic Degrees is in Canada, where Doctors of Naturopathic Medicine are awarded with a diploma, as opposed to a degree.Naturopathic Degrees may be achieved upon successful completion of a rigorous academic program in natural health medicine. The curriculum may include such subjects as mind-body-spirit medicine, herbal medicine, homeopathy, naturopathy, Oriental medicine, massage therapy, and other associated subject matter. Students who have finished their coursework and met all state licensure and/or certification requirements, may work in a variety of health care settings.Typically, graduates who have earned their Naturopathic Degrees can apply their learned skills in various ways. Some may choose to further their education in a traditional medical school to go beyond earning Naturopathic Degrees. Others may opt to become entrepreneurs in the field and establish their own practices.
