Coping With Stress

Author : Diane Hale
Stress…a sense of powerlessness! We all feel powerless at some time or other. Our lives are a restless search for power- the power to overcome the limitations we constantly experience. At the most fundamental level, we need the power of self-esteem, the power of security, the power to meet the challenge of other people, the power to face situations, the power to feel at home in time. The power to face the future with trust, the power to live creatively, the power to love, and ultimately the power to face suffering and death. In short, the power to live up to the full potential of all we can be.At the limit of our pressure point, our release comes through having a quiet mind. Quieting the mind means less thinking, controlling, worrying, trying, judging, and regretting. "Be still and know…". This cannot be achieved by intellectual understanding. Only as peace is received in a moment when the mind is relatively still is one sufficiently encouraged to let go more completely. Very gradually one begins to trust the natural process which occurs when the mind is less and less active. It may be that one of the major reasons some of us have difficulty really letting go of the stress is that we are short on trust—trust in God and in our communion with God when we are not "in charge." It is not easy to stop doing and just be; to stop thinking and just be; to stop judging and just be! What we need to keep in mind is that at the limit of our pressure point, we need to learn to let go!Okay we are pursuing peace let's get started.1. Remember your spiritual connection – re-affirm your position in Jesus Christ by letting these words sink into your heart. "I am fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God – purchased by the Blood of Jesus Christ at Calvary – I am receiving again the In-filling of the Holy Spirit! His name Christ means 'the anointed one' breath deeply and slowly of His Life right now and calm down!Action:Read: Psalm 139 – Romans – 1 Corinthians 6:19 – Romans 5:8When at home alone…lie down and relax imagine your finger tips and the tips of your toes having corks in them and pull the corks out – allow all the negative power to flow out of you until you are empty of stress, striving and inner struggle. Now allow the river of God's love to fill you to overflowing – when you are full replace the corks and thank God.2. Retune your responses to what is taking place.Make an inventory of what you are thinking and allow your attitude to be changed. Saying to yourself…God does all things well and He will use all things to work together for good to those that love Him.Action:Write down: What you are thinking – factsHow you are thinking - feelings
Why this causes you stressAdjust your attitude to that of Christ –Read: Philippians 2:4-6 "Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantage of that status no matter what.3. Reorder your priorities.Give your problems to God and make His purpose your top priority.
Keep the main thing – the main thing –Action:Read, meditate and implement Psalm 119:105The Message translation says it this way;"By your words I can see where I'm going; they throw a beam of light on my dark path"4. Research your resourcesAction steps:Identity the heart of the problemIsolate the symptoms from the problemGather all available informationWrite down all known options5. Release all relationship and circumstances into God's hands.Action:Read aloud: Ephesians 3:20 in The Message translation."God can do anything, you know – far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us."Diane Hale is founder and president of Unique By Design a Market Place Ministry designed to assist all people in discovering and developing the plan, purpose and passion of their life.
