Having a Definite Purpose

Author : Chris Crouch
What? The real, but rarely talked about, reason many people are unorganized is because they have an unorganized mind. It's no mystery to understand why this is a huge problem these days. Most people are being bombarded with sensory input and are completely overloaded. It's like the frog in the pot of hot water story. Little by little the heat is turned up until the frog gets boiled without knowing it.So What?Welcome to the frog-in-the-hot-pot-world! I don't have to tell you how the heat is being turned up on you. You can figure that out on your own. The bottom line is that we all have more sensory input and choices today than ever before. And more sensory input and choices lead to the following:Chaos
Indecision
Procrastination
Mental ParalysisIt doesn't have to be this way! There is a solution…an antidote for an overloaded mind. It is called having a definite purpose. Now What?If you are struggling with procrastination, indecision or other issues related to an overloaded mind, the next best step for you is to keep your mind busy with a definite purpose. Slow down or stop the mental chaos by keeping your mind and body totally occupied with activities that directly relate to your life purpose for a reasonable amount of time each day. If you are not sure what you want to do with your life, start out by figuring out what you are going to do with today, the morning, or the next hour.We all have a definite purpose, a calling. There is a reason we are on this planet at this time. You may think at this point I am getting a bit philosophical…and I am! But, let's get more practical. If you know your definite purpose, start dropping out for at least an hour a day and focus on things that directly relate to it, whatever it is for you. Expand your amount of "drop out" time, when you feel ready, until you achieve a comfortable daily balance of "definite purpose" activities and other stuff. For example, I am a writer and a teacher. That's what I love to do. Anything that directly relates to writing and teaching makes me feel good about myself. It makes me feel as if I am absolutely on the right path in life. My life feels more focused and productive, and less chaotic. I've known this for years, but it took me a long time to back up this knowledge with action. Too often, I worked on "other stuff" first, so I could enjoy writing and teaching later. Recently, I made a new life decision. For the first half of every day, I write or teach. Everything else has to wait until after 12 noon. Phone calls wait, e-mails wait, checking the stock market waits. Do I occasionally make exceptions? Sure, but they are extremely rare! I no longer allow a pattern of less important exceptions distract me from my definite life purpose. Don't allow the chaos of your daily life to get in the way of your life purpose. Decide today to "drop out" for an hour, two hours, or for whatever amount of time you need to focus on what's important to you.If you don't know your definite purpose, spend one hour a day reading Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. It's not just another self-help book. It is a book that can help you discover your definite purpose and back it up with specific plans."The most practical of all methods for controlling the mind is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose, backed by a definite plan." - Napoleon HillChris Crouch, president and founder of DME Training and Consulting, is the developer of the GO System.
