The Reactive Mind -- Why People Fail

Author : Brad Howard
I was thinking about something the other day that really didn't sit too well with me…You see, most people live in a "reactive" state of mind. In other words, their circumstances dictate everything around them. Most anything can and will effect their mood…From what I've seen, most people say things like:"If only my boss wasn't such a (insert favorite phrase)-or-"If only I had more money"-or-"If only I was in better shape"Think of Pavlov's dogs…See food, ring bell, salivate…Before long… ring bell… salivate…Most people are like this too. Many times, you hear people talk about someone being "conditioned" to feel a certain way. This is a perfect example of living in a reactive world. Reactive people only make change WHEN CHANGE IS FORCED UPON THEM…… INSTEAD OF CHANGING ON THEIR OWN TERMS.Which way are you?Almost everyone I know has a problem with this. It's extremely hard to face the fact that your life is running you and that you have virtually no control. It's not a good feeling and is probably the largest cause of stress around. What kind of things can you think about that "run" your life? Better question, what kind of actions can you take to change the way these "things" effect you?In the next installment, I'll talk about the "proactive" world and what being "proactive" really means. It's not what you think and it could be the difference in you being happy or not.Brad Howard's Mind Over Body Matter Letter delves into the "meat and potatoes" of all of the misinformation generated by the diet and fitness industry today.
