Healing Your Soul: Creating a Sanctuary of Peace in Your Home

Author : Wendy Wallace
Life stresses can often become too demanding. When they do, you need a calming place where you can replenish yourself. Transforming a room in your home into a comfortable and soothing retreat doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Deciding what brings you peace of mind and a sense of tranquility is what is most important.Keeping things simple is the best approach you can take. The biggest challenge is to clear out your junk. You keep what nourishes you and what pleases you and you get rid of what doesn't. Your space is a reflection of who you are. If there is something about yourself or your life you want to change then changing your physical space will have an effect on the other areas of your life.To bring serenity to a room, a cool color scheme consisting of blues and greens is the best choice. Try to limit or avoid patterns. Electric lighting should be minimal. Having soft textures throughout the room will help absorb any unwanted noise as will heavier fabric used as wall hangings.Combine soft and rounded objects such as pillows, overstuffed furniture, and glassware with hard and angular pieces such as framed pictures and wooden furniture.Bringing the natural elements (water, wood, fire, metal, and earth) into a room is what will make it a perfect refuge. An aquarium with a soft motor can bring a feeling of warmth. Having the sun shine through colored glass bottles filled with water can bring beauty. Wicker furniture, candles, and several house plants can all help to keep you in touch with the simple things in life.People are constantly busy and are often rushed. It's necessary to have a room where you can sit down and know that the time you spend there is truly for yourself.Create a safe, personalized environment where you can come to heal. Create a sanctuary for the soul. Use a palette of soft colors and fill the room with art and objects which inspire thought and reflection.Don't focus so much on the act of decoration but rather put things where it feels right.Creating a relaxed atmosphere can be as simple as using aromatherapy. Small amounts of lavender, chamomile, or virtually any floral scent will do the trick.Using essential oils has the same effect as walking through a meadow and breathing deeply. There is something healing about essential oils. If you can only bring in one soothing aspect to your room, bring in a scent that will calm your entire body.Taking a room and turning it into a place where contentment is found may be one of the most long lasting gifts you could give to yourself. With a never-ending list of interests and a great deal of experience and knowledge, Wendy Wallace is an intuitive counselor offering sessions which combine psychic reading, life coaching and counseling--all to help heal your mind, body, and spirit.
